Corrections, Concerns, and Retractions Policy
At-Ta’dib: Journal of Pesantren Education is committed to academic integrity, transparency, and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scholarly publishing. This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the journal’s publication process.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use generative AI and AI-assisted tools for appropriate purposes, such as language refinement, outlining, and assistance with data analysis or coding. However, AI must not replace the authors’ critical thinking, scholarly judgment, or responsibility for the research. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts. They must verify AI-assisted content, references, data, and interpretations and ensure that the work does not contain fabricated information, misleading claims, plagiarism, or unauthorized use of copyrighted material. The use of AI for substantive content generation, research design, data analysis, coding, or other significant research activities must be disclosed. Relevant methodological uses must also be described in the Methods section, where applicable. Routine spelling and grammar checks do not require disclosure. AI systems must not be listed as authors or co-authors. All listed authors must meet applicable authorship criteria and accept responsibility for the published work. AI-generated or AI-modified images, figures, and other visual materials must be disclosed when their use is relevant to the scholarly content. Such materials must not misrepresent research evidence or findings. Any AI use involving research images, data, or visual evidence must be methodologically justified and transparently reported.
2. Use of AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and review materials. They must not upload manuscripts, unpublished data, review reports, or confidential editorial information to external AI tools that are not explicitly approved for secure use by the journal. Reviewers are responsible for conducting their own scholarly evaluations. AI tools must not replace their expert judgment or independently determine review recommendations. Any permitted use of AI must comply with the journal’s confidentiality and ethical requirements.
3. Use of AI by Editors
Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and editorial correspondence. They must not upload confidential materials to unauthorized AI systems. Editorial decisions concerning scholarly merit, acceptance, rejection, and publication ethics must remain under human editorial responsibility. AI-assisted tools may be used only for appropriate purposes consistent with journal policy, confidentiality requirements, and applicable ethical standards.
4. Disclosure and Transparency
When disclosure is required, authors should identify the AI tool, explain its purpose and extent of use, and describe the human verification or oversight applied. Authors must ensure that the disclosure is accurate and that all substantive scholarly claims remain their responsibility. The editorial team may request clarification about AI use when necessary to assess the integrity of a submission.
5. Violations and Editorial Actions
Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use may be investigated when it raises concerns about originality, fabricated information, research integrity, confidentiality, or compliance with this policy. The journal will assess each case individually, provide authors with an appropriate opportunity to respond when warranted, and determine proportionate action based on the evidence and seriousness of the concern. Actions may include a request for clarification or correction, rejection of a submission, or post-publication measures in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics and retraction policies. AI-detection tools or automated indicators must not be treated as conclusive evidence of misconduct on their own. The journal does not permit AI systems to make independent editorial or publication-ethics decisions. Human judgment and accountability remain essential throughout the publication process.
