Post-Publication Policy

Post-Publication Discussion, Research Integrity, and Corrections

At-Ta’dib: Journal of Pesantren Education recognizes that publication does not end scholarly scrutiny. Readers, authors, reviewers, and editors share responsibility for maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of published research. This policy establishes procedures for post-publication discussion, research integrity concerns, and corrections to published articles, informed by the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Purpose and Principles

The journal applies the following principles:

  • Integrity of the scholarly record: Published articles must remain open to responsible academic scrutiny.
  • Transparency: Substantive changes to published articles must be documented through appropriate editorial notices; articles will not be altered silently.
  • Fairness: Authors and other relevant parties will be given an appropriate opportunity to respond to concerns.
  • Confidentiality: Reports and investigations will be handled confidentially where appropriate.
  • Editorial independence: Decisions will be based on evidence, scholarly merit, and publication ethics, independently of commercial or institutional pressure.

2. Post-Publication Discussion

Forms of Discussion

The journal welcomes the following forms of scholarly communication:

  • Comment or Letter to the Editor: A scholarly response that questions, critically examines, clarifies, or offers an alternative interpretation of a published article.
  • Author Reply: A response by the original authors addressing the issues raised in a comment.
  • Research Integrity Concern: A report of suspected misconduct or a serious error, handled confidentially under Section 03.

Requirements for Comments

Comments should:

  • Address the scholarly content of a published article relevant to the journal’s focus and scope.
  • Present clear arguments supported by appropriate evidence and references.
  • Use professional, respectful, and non-defamatory language.
  • Identify the original article by its title and DOI or URL.
  • Disclose relevant competing interests.

Procedure

  1. Submission: Send the comment to attadib@unida.gontor.ac.id, identifying the original article and providing the full text of the proposed comment.
  2. Editorial screening: The editor assesses relevance, scholarly contribution, accuracy, tone, and compliance with publication ethics.
  3. Expert assessment: Independent expert advice may be sought when specialist assessment is necessary.
  4. Invitation to reply: The original authors will normally be invited to respond to substantive comments.
  5. Editorial decision: The editor evaluates the comment and response, where available, and decides whether they are suitable for publication.
  6. Publication and linking: Accepted comments and replies may be published as scholarly contributions and linked to the original article where technically feasible.

3. Research Integrity Concerns

Issues That May Be Reported

The journal accepts evidence-based reports concerning possible:

  • Plagiarism, including inappropriate text recycling or redundant publication.
  • Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data, images, or research materials.
  • Authorship misconduct or undisclosed competing interests.
  • Breaches of research ethics, including issues involving informed consent or participant confidentiality.
  • Citation manipulation, compromised peer review, or paper-mill activity.
  • Undisclosed or inappropriate use of generative artificial intelligence.
  • Other serious errors or ethical concerns that may affect the reliability or integrity of a published article.

Procedure

  1. Report: Contact the Editorial Office at attadib@unida.gontor.ac.id, providing the article title, DOI or URL, a description of the concern, and supporting evidence. Anonymous reports may be considered when sufficiently specific and substantiated.
  2. Preliminary assessment: The editor evaluates the credibility and relevance of the concern and may consult independent experts.
  3. Author response: Where a concern warrants further examination, the editor contacts the relevant author or authors and provides a reasonable opportunity to respond and supply supporting information.
  4. Evaluation: The editor assesses the available evidence and responses. The journal may seek advice from the authors’ institution, research ethics body, or other relevant authority when an external investigation is necessary.
  5. Editorial action: Depending on the findings, the journal may close the case, issue a correction, publish an expression of concern, or retract the article.
  6. Documentation: The journal maintains an appropriate record of the case and communicates the outcome to relevant parties, subject to confidentiality requirements.

4. Corrections and Changes to Published Articles

The published version of record will not be changed silently. When a post-publication issue is verified, the journal will determine the appropriate action according to its Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions Policy.

Correction

A correction may be issued when a verified error affects the accuracy, completeness, or interpretation of an article but does not invalidate its principal findings. Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect meaning or citation may not require a formal notice.

Expression of Concern

An expression of concern may be published when substantial doubts exist about an article’s reliability or integrity but the available evidence is inconclusive or an investigation remains unresolved.

Retraction

Retraction may be considered when an article’s findings are unreliable because of serious error or misconduct, plagiarism, redundant publication, unethical research, compromised peer review, or other circumstances that substantially undermine the integrity of the publication.

A retraction is intended to correct the scholarly record, not to punish authors. The retraction notice should clearly explain the reason for the action and identify the affected article.

Removal

Removal of a published article will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, such as serious legal or privacy concerns, a court order, or a substantial risk to individuals or the public. Where removal is necessary, the journal will preserve appropriate bibliographic information and provide a notice explaining the action to the extent legally permissible.

Procedure for Requests

Authors or readers who identify a significant error should email the Editorial Office with the subject line Post-Publication Correction Request. The request should include:

  1. The article title and DOI or URL.
  2. The precise location and description of the error or concern.
  3. The proposed correction, where applicable.
  4. An explanation of the effect on the article’s findings or conclusions.
  5. Supporting evidence and, for author requests, confirmation of co-author agreement where relevant.

The editor will assess the request, seek clarification or expert advice when necessary, and determine the appropriate action. Formal notices will be linked to the original article wherever technically feasible.

5. Roles and Responsibilities

Authors must notify the journal of significant errors in their published work, cooperate with appropriate inquiries, and provide relevant supporting information.

Readers and reviewers should report substantive concerns responsibly and provide supporting evidence where available.

Editors must assess concerns fairly, protect confidentiality where appropriate, give relevant parties an opportunity to respond, document decisions, and follow applicable publication ethics guidance.

The journal and publisher are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the published record and updating article information and related notices as appropriate and technically feasible.
